The program allows users to access transportation 24/7 through a partnership with Uber and zTrip, a wheelchair-accessible vehicle provider, according to a May 6 city news release.
“Our residents and visitors now have another convenient way to get around Georgetown with rideGTX,” Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said in the release.
How it works
Through rideGTX, riders can get up to 10 discounted rides each month by using the Uber application on a smartphone. Riders pay the first $4, and the city subsidizes up to $10 per ride. Riders pay any remaining balance over $14. Riders without smartphones can call 1-833-873-8237 to schedule a ride with Uber.
Those requiring a wheelchair accessible vehicle may call 512-337-9796 to schedule a zTrip ride. Riders needing a wheelchair accessible vehicle can get unlimited rides and will only pay $4 per trip, per the release.
zTrip drivers will accept cash or credit, and rides may be scheduled up to two weeks in advance, per the release. Carpooled trips cost $4 and count as one trip, regardless of the number of riders.
How we got here
City Council members approved a three-year contract with TRIPPP Consulting, a public transit consulting company at a Feb. 11 meeting, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
The estimated total cost of the contract is $858,600 and includes implementation and management costs over three years, according to city documents.
Diving in deeper
The service area for rideGTX starts and ends within city limits but extends to the Baylor Scott & White and Ascension Seton Williamson hospitals in Round Rock.
Riders can access their monthly vouchers, which are automatically added to a user’s Uber wallet each month, at www.georgetowntexas.gov/ridegtx.
One more thing
Staff will return to council before the end of 2025 to present an update on the program’s progress, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
GoGeo limited paratransit and rides for those 65 and older will continue as another transit choice, per the release.
