A new building at Meadowmere Park has a name now.

The Grapevine Parks & Recreation Department announced a new 8,000-square-foot facility will be called Meadowmere Adventure Center on Grapevine Lake, according to a social media post.

The details

The facility faces Grapevine Lake and will host up to 100 children per week for summer camps. The first camp is the Outdoor Adventure Camp, which starts June 16. According to the website, camp attendees will learn about the outdoors as well as being on the lake in boats learning about nature. This camp encourages children to engage and embrace the great outdoors. Archery and other activities will be set up inside as a reprieve from the heat, if necessary.

The background

The Grapevine City Council approved a bid from HBA Design Build for a pre-engineered metal building for $675,275 during the Aug. 6, 2024, meeting, according to previous reporting.

The city estimates the building could generate $150,000 in net revenue, according to city documents.

Projected numbers by the Parks and Recreation Department show they could have 1,100 children take part throughout this summer.

What else?

Parks and Recreation Director Chris Smith said an indoor shelter is needed in case of inclement weather for day camps, which has limited the number of students who could register in recent years. Smith said the building is placed beyond the 557-foot flood mark for Grapevine Lake, near the existing restroom facility.

In 2022, city officials rented a spot at The Ranch of Lonesome Dove in Southlake and hit 1,100 participants. Outside of that year, recent numbers have been around 400 students, according to data provided during the 2024 council meeting.
